About me
Welcome! I’m Carla Martoni, an international psychologist supporting individuals on their path to a more sustainable way of living. Based in Amsterdam, my practice welcomes people navigating a wide range of challenges, such as anxiety, stress, challenges with food and body image, relationship difficulties, and the complexities of relocating across borders.
My own journey of living in four different countries over the last ten years has deeply shaped how I practice: with a profound respect for your unique story and a commitment to working as equals. I am deeply passionate about my work and constantly evolving my skills through ongoing academic study. I also know how vulnerable it can feel to share your personal story for the first time, which is why I fully dedicate myself to creating a safe, attentive, and welcoming space for the person in front of me.
My Approach
Confidentiality & respect
Privacy is at the core of my practice. I work independently of insurance providers, our sessions remain entirely confidential and off the record. I am committed to creating a respectful environment where you can explore your experience with total peace of mind.
Collaboration & transparency
I believe that therapeutic relationships are built on collaboration and transparency. This means that, in practice, we will work together to agree on the best strategy for your needs, reassessing it as often as needed to ensure we are on the right path. I will always seek your alignment and input on what we are working on and how to ensure we are moving forward together.
Personalized Care
I don't believe in "cookie-cutter" therapy. Every session is shaped by your specific needs and the goals you want to reach. By focusing on your unique experience, we create a therapeutic space that adapts to you, rather than asking you to fit into a pre-set formula.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral from my GP (huisarts)?
No. Because this is a private, self-pay practice, you do not need a referral from your GP or formal diagnosis to begin our work together. You can reach out directly via my contact form or use the booking tool on this site to schedule your first session.
Are your sessions covered by Dutch health insurance?
My practice is self-pay only, meaning sessions are not eligible for reimbursement through Dutch health insurance. Please note that individual psychological therapy is VAT exempt (vrijgesteld van BTW), so the price you see is the final amount you pay.
Where are you located and do you offer online sessions?
I offer in-person sessions in the heart of Amsterdam at Keizersgracht 394. For those who require more flexibility, I also provide online sessions or a mix of both in-person and online sessions, depending on what best fits your schedule and lifestyle.
What can I expect of a treatment with you?
Our work begins with a first session where we can get to know each other and see if the way I work feels right for you. Once we decide to move forward, we’ll start by setting a focus for our time together, exploring the areas of your life that matter most to you. We will check in regularly on how you’re feeling and the progress you’re making, ensuring our sessions remain a helpful space as we decide together on the best way to continue.
Who is this service not suitable for?
This service is not suitable for emergencies or for managing complex psychiatric conditions that require intensive, multidisciplinary support. This includes severe eating disorders, active substance addiction, or acute, unmanaged psychiatric conditions.
Because this is a private practice without an on-call response team, we do not provide emergency services. If your life or the life of someone else is at risk, please contact your general practitioner (huisarts), call the local emergency services (112), or reach out to the Dutch suicide prevention helpline (113) immediately.
We can discuss your specific needs during an initial consultation to see if we are a good match. If it becomes clear that your current challenges require a level of specialist care that falls outside the scope of my practice, we can discuss alternative options or appropriate actions to ensure you find the right support.
